Brandlive founder launches new startup that embeds video chat into websites and apps – GeekWire
Video conferencing has exploded amid the pandemic. Companies like Zoom and Microsoft are seeing huge growth with their tools.
Now a Bend, Ore.-based startup wants to help anybody add video chat capabilities directly within their existing website or app.
Fritz Brumder, who previously co-founded Portland video streaming startup Brandlive, is co-founder and CEO of Zipcan, which just launched its new tool that enables embeddable video calling.
The idea is to save time and money on potential development, and offer something better than a link to a Zoom call.
Brumder said he sold Brandlive back to his investors and then started thinking about trends in video collaboration. He teamed up with former Brandlive colleague Spenser Lea and launched Zipcan earlier this year.
Brumder said the startup has two paying customers: eVisit and Signathon.com. eVisit launched mobile video chat to help medical professionals serve patients. Signathon sells video chats between fans and athletes.
Zipcan has raised $100,000 with plans to close a full seed round. Cascade Seed Fund is one of the company’s investors.
