Aditi Rao Hydari has always convinced us with her creative versatility. An actress loved across languages and industries for her work, her choices, her singing dancing, and her effortless style. During the lockdown, Aditi worked with Mallika to create a very special limited edition collection for Canceled Plans that reinforces the brand’s sustainability ethos. Abandoned plans were founded and launched at the London Design Festival in conjunction with London Fashion Week in September 2019, celebrating the use of recycled and rejected materials that are otherwise considered waste.
Canceled plans use materials that are thrown away, considered trash, and usually end up in landfills or in the oceans with no purpose. The brand works with local factories to collect non-hazardous waste, which is often of high quality and not used due to the nature of industrial processes. These materials are then transformed into design elements that, when combined with conventional materials, result in useful and long-lasting everyday products.
About their collaboration, Aditi says, “The idea of collaboration started with my first gift of Canceled Plans during the lockdown. It was a sweatshirt that Mallika had sent me and that I wore non-stop (and then bought more). I love what the brand stands for and what world it is trying to build. For me, it was easy, comfort and fun that were rooted in responsibility, so I started sharing abandoned plans with my friends. Mallika and I customized unique sweatshirts for her and this led us to think why we shouldn’t create a tiny line together since I loved the process so much.
We sat at the drawing board and played with waste materials from different factories to design and manufacture this line. We did several rehearsals and I’ve literally lived in these coordinate sets for the past few months. It’s a small line and simple and effortless, an extension of my personality. We used quotes and graphics that I love and now I am sharing them with you. I hope you love her as much as I do. “
