Alex Scott inundated with support over the role of A Question of Sport

Alex Scott has been inundated with support after breaking her silence over these sporting rumors.

The sports expert and former Strictly contestant, 36, has long been mentioned as a candidate to succeed Sue Barker.

And now, as she looked into the reports, she’s asked for less “negative energy” on social media.

One user tweeted, “Don’t let the negativity affect you, there are so many more people who support you and think you are fabulous !!!”

While another user replied, “Well, that sucks because there aren’t many Sue could have passed the QOS baton to, you’re one of the few.

“Just like her, you’re a living sports encyclopedia, Alex!”

The fans shared their disappointment

A third user commented, “Two things pissed me off about this. 1. Why shouldn’t you take over – you’d be amazing. 2. I can’t believe it has to show where you need to tweet this in the first place, very unfair to you. You will become a great moderator and insightful expert. Go on!”

And a fourth user wrote, “You would be great Alex if the chance came in the future, but damn it, these trolls are different.”

Ever since Sue announced in September 2020 that she was stepping down from A Question of Sport, rumors have been around as to who would replace her.

And Alex was immediately reported as a top contender for the prestigious role.

However, the former professional footballer said this led to horrific and often racist abuse on the internet.

After Gary Lineker posted a congratulatory tweet to Alex (despite no official confirmation from the BBC), a terrible troll abuse ensued.

Alex responded with the greatest dignity. She published a poem she wrote on social media in 2018.

The poem read: “The color of my skin, I was the girl who played soccer because I always wanted to win. I retired from football with numerous medals and honors. I retired from football to open a new door.

“Now I’m talking about football live on your television. Some would like to say that I tick a box, but it’s not me. Football is football and I see that. Hello, hello, my name is Alex Scott and you know what? I am soccer. “
