The Cecil Hotel is linked to the mysterious and infamous death of Elisa Lam.
It has a famous history of violent deaths and suicides.
And UK viewers will soon become familiar with a newer mystery when a new documentary airs on Netflix starting February 10th.
Crime scene: The Disappearance at the Cecil Hotel tells of the terrible disappearance and death of the Canadian student Elisa in 2013.
But the place became known for suspicious activity many decades earlier, including the shocking murder of the “Black Dahlia”.
Elizabeth Short, 22, died under brutal circumstances in January 1947.
The remains of the aspiring actress were found in the Leimert Park district by a horrified passerby.
Amazingly, her body was cut in half and arranged so that her hands were close to her head, her elbows were bent, and her legs were spread. Her body and face were also mutilated by cuts and slashed from the corners of her mouth to her ears.
What is the Cecil Hotel Link?
Short was reportedly discovered in the Cecil Hotel Bar the days before her disappearance.
It is alleged that she may have been a regular patron of the bar.

However, some observers deny the connection to the Cecil Hotel.
That’s because Short’s body appeared 11 miles from the hotel’s location in downtown Los Angeles.
What other deadly associations are there with the Cecil Hotel?
There’s also a connection between the Cecil Hotel and the theme of the Netflix True Crime series Night Stalker.
Serial killer Richard Ramirez was also a guest at the hotel.
He reportedly stayed at the hotel for several weeks at the height of his rampage.

A judge sentenced Ramirez to nineteen death sentences in 1989 for his crimes between 1984 and 1985.
His beliefs included thirteen murders, five attempted murders, eleven sexual assaults, and fourteen break-ins.
However, he died in prison in 2013 at the age of 53 from complications from B-cell lymphoma. He spent 23 years on death row.
Were there murders at the Cecil Hotel?
Among the many violent incidents involving the Cecil Hotel, the murder of ‘Pigeon Goldie’ Osgood is one of the most terrifying.
An unknown murderer raped, beat and stabbed her in June 1964.
A suspect in blood-stained clothing was arrested and charged, but was later released.
What happened to Elisa Lam?
Elisa checked into the Cecil Hotel on January 26, 2013.
On February 19, a maintenance worker at the hotel found the student’s naked body in a 1,000-gallon water tank on the roof of the property.
CCTV footage shows her gaze behind her after she got into an elevator and also “hid”.
However, no one else has appeared in the footage reportedly showing her final minutes alive.
But what happened to her?
One theory is that after taking hallucinogenic drugs, she climbed into the tank herself.
However, there are indications of a bad game. For example, the lid of the water tank is huge and she may have had difficulty getting in on her own.
Crime Scene: The Disappearance at the Cecil Hotel will air on Netflix on Wednesday February 10th.
