Only 2.35 million people saw the episode – which supposedly makes it the lowest in soap history.

The numbers are only about people who watched live and don’t include catch-up services like iPlayer.

One continued to write Digital spy forums: “This doesn’t look good and I’m sick of people trying to distract and cover up the issues because if this lasts much longer there will be no EastEnders left to be saved.”

A second said, “It looks like the show is on its last legs.

“People just don’t want pseudo-gangsters, stupid business, unwanted pregnancies, and poorly written and so-called drama. Unfortunately the show is now a joke. “

A third agreed: “In short, the show needs to be thoroughly messed up behind the scenes, not just because Oates and Sen are being removed, but others who mock this show as well.”

“The time when we stay and watch TV is probably over, at least for the summer. No wonder it no longer works.”

Another said: “Ratings outside of soap dispute have been incredibly stable since September.

“That’s a fact, and ratings rose by the 35th anniversary.

“The cutting of the episodes due to Covid, the broadcasting of the show and the shortening of the episodes to 20 minutes hurt it deeply.

“Anything that is beyond a producer’s control.”
