Ex-Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten has thrown her support behind former Big Brother contestant Nikki Grahame in her battle against eating disorders
Gemma, who played Rachel Breckle on ITV Soap, shared her own experience with an eating disorder after learning how Nikki got help from Charity Seeds.

Her own parents co-founded the charity when Gemma was a child herself.
The soap star, who was 10 when she developed her eating disorder, shared her story on Twitter.
Gemma seemed visibly upset and said, “I’m struggling with this because Seed was co-founded by my parents 26 years ago because we went through exactly the same thing.

“And yet we are here now, still fighting for someone’s life. This beautiful, beautiful woman who deserves a life apart from an eating disorder cannot get any help. And it’s not just Nikki. There are hundreds of thousands of people. “
The Soap Window urged those who are struggling to get help. She also slammed the government for lack of funding for psychiatric care.
In a follow-up tweet, Gemma added, “I’m angry too and I apologize. But when will the forces that are deployed increase and prioritize aid to support people with eating disorders ?!

“We see this all the time and it’s not good enough. If the voluntary sector were more supported, maybe we could do more …
“Intervening early is the key. You can’t give a number to a life. Not on the scales, not on money and not on time.
“These are real people with loved ones who feel helpless. A daughter, a son, a brother, a sister, a wife, a husband, a friend.
“I will keep fighting for change …”
Gemma Oaten was in Emmerdale from 2011 to 2015.
Earlier this week, former Big Brother star Rylan announced that Nikki was in dire need of help.

The TV host is helping raise £ 50,000 so 38-year-old Nikki can pay for private treatment for her anorexia.
Nikki, who became famous on the 2006 Big Brother series, has battled the eating disorder for most of her life.
With their full support, friends founded one GoFundMe Page after their fight worsened. It has now raised more than £ 60k.
