Imelda Staunton’s first speech before the Queen role

Imelda Staunton gave her first official address to The Crown fans that weekend ahead of season five.

The 65-year-old actress will take on the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming episodes, with a time jump allowing a cast swap.

Imelda appeared behind her royal desk to give fans an “address” at Netflix’s TUDUM event on Saturday.

Outside the character, smiling into the cameras, Imelda paid tribute to the actresses who had played queen before her and discussed how she felt about taking on the role.

“I am delighted to be here and to take on the role of Queen Elizabeth from two outstanding actresses. Lastly the wonderful Olivia Colman, and who could forget the actress who invented the role, Claire Foy. “

“I will do my best to maintain the very high standard that you have set. Hopefully I look calm, collected, and able. My stomach is doing somersaults meanwhile, ”she added.
