Olly and body problems

The lead singer of the electronica band Years & Years has spoken about his harmful body image issues that he has had for 10 years.

At a Facebook Live event hosted by BuzzFeed News, Olly said his problems first appeared at a local gym class when he was 10.

He said, “I got physical problems and stopped eating. Like I’m not eating.

“I was stuck between this place where I was really, really, really thin and hated it – because I wanted to be muscular like other boys.

“But at the same time I didn’t want to gain weight because that was bad too. I’ve struggled with it for a really long time. “

Olly said he would skip meals, hate his body, and be obsessed with what he ate, but was never diagnosed with an eating disorder.

With the help of therapy and a strong support base, he has recovered and researched the causes of his anxiety.
