Kate Garraway “just refuses” to let husband Derek Draper go, Lorraine Kelly has revealed.
Full of praise for her ITV friend and colleague, Lorraine said she did not know “how in the name of God” Kate had managed to get through the past year.
Derek was hospitalized after contracting coronavirus in March 2020.
He’s been in the hospital for a full year now.

Lorraine commented that Kate hadn’t been able to visit Derek since Christmas.
She “texted Derek for hours” on her iPad and “kept him from despair” by telling him he was going to be home “soon”.
He was at death’s door and stays with us thanks to the skills of the medical professionals who treat him. But I am convinced that it is also because Kate simply refuses to let him go.
Lorraine said Kate also reassured her husband that “everything will be fine”.
“Kate was truly amazing in her courage and tenacity. She remains positive and hopeful that one day Derek will come out of the hospital and be back where he belongs as friends and family help him recover, ”added Lorraine.

Lorraine also said the selfless Kate is showing a brave face for her work colleagues at Good Morning Britain.

Talking about her latest documentary on Finding Derek, Lorraine said she enjoyed seeing the love Kate has for Derek on screen.
The couple married in 2005 and are parents to daughter Darcey and son William.
She added that we “can never underestimate the power of love”.
And she said it’s what “will get us through”.
