Kirstie Allsopp enraged Twitter users with comments she made this weekend about COVID.
The 49-year-old television personality, best known for her popular real estate shows, urged parents not to worry too much about their children testing positive for COVID-19.
Kirstie said, given her roughly 422,000 Twitter followers, “COVID is a terrible disease, but it’s very, very, very rare for it to affect children. They are still far more dangerous from driving, swimming, or jumping on a trampoline than COVID. Please don’t let anyone convince you. “
Kirstie’s tweet caused a stir.
Dozens of disgruntled social media users responded to her comment.
Kirstie causes a stir on Twitter
One angry Twitter user replied, “Stick to bullet making and leave important things to the educated. Teachers are and will die.
“I will never understand why the vain and hard-thinking people feel that they have something to offer on important issues.”

While another user scolded, “So my 56 year old wife will be fine if she has to go in and teach her, right? No, Kirstie, she probably won’t. Shut down schools, shut down everything but the most important businesses for a month, that’s the only way. “
And a third user raved: “Children are super spreaders, Kirstie. While most are unaffected, they do bring it home to a vulnerable family like me.

“Don’t trivialize the severity of this virus. 25% of the population are chronically ill and / or disabled, then there are older people. “
While palliative care practitioner Rachel Clarke hit back with, “The problem is the transference, Kirstie. Children convey to their teachers and to each other in school and from there to their homes.
“Parents, siblings and grandparents are then affected. The NHS is overwhelmed. That is much worse than in April. Keeping schools open will cost countless lives. “
She insists that her claims have nothing to do with schools
Her tweet was posted over the weekend just before the kids returned to school.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged the nation to send their children back on Monday.

This is despite the concern of many parents for the safety of their children as the mutated COVID strain spreads across the UK.
However, Kirstie has already resorted to the negative reactions to her original tweet.
🗣️ “It only minimally affected children in the first wave … we now have a whole section of children here.”

And she insisted it had nothing to do with schools. She said, “God, there are some egoists [bleeps] out there! What’s wrong with all of you ?! I am not talking about the schools, I am talking about reassuring children and their parents. This new variant is in no way more dangerous for children and those who say otherwise are angry. “
Instead, she claims it was in response to a tweet from BBC Radio 5 Live that included a quote from matron Laura Duffel.
In it, she said there was a ward full of children with COVID in a London hospital.
However, her claims have been denied by some London pediatricians.
For example, Professor Russell Viner, President of the RCPCH said, “Children’s wards are usually busy during winter. We are not currently seeing any significant pressure from COVID-19 in pediatrics across the UK. “
