Tennis fans get their money’s worth, because they can experience the career and life of tennis legends Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in the original series of ZEE5 “BREAK POINT”. In addition to constructing their epic tennis matches, the show will deconstruct their relationship on and off the pitch in a 7-part series. Leander and Mahesh formed the most successful and feared pair of couples in the late 1990s. Their magical partnership led them to win many grand slams and awards on the pitch. But whenever the Indian tennis couple needed something to get things going on the court, they hit the chest and that’s how it came into play.
Leander explains similarly: “Mahesh was very introverted and calm. Our opponents always attacked him and I would be the one fighting the tyrants out there like I did in my school days. I felt like I needed to instill a sense of physical aggression in him. While Mahesh was in a clamshell and silent, I pumped adrenaline. In one of our previous games, I was on the net and looked back at Mahesh for a point and he was silent. I thought I had to shake him up a bit or we won’t win this game. I ran up to him and could see his eyes grow scared. I just jumped to his chest and hit him on the chest. And then it became a thing. Whenever we were low on energy, we hit the chest. Whenever we wanted to turn a game over, we hit our chests. “

Mahesh adds, “I’m pretty sure the first time we got the breast bulges was when we played our first Davis Cup match together. Given the difference in altitude, everything between us was spontaneous. It worked. In our minds we were creating a new brand of doubles and it was obvious that people were coming to see them. So we enjoyed it. “
Now fans can also be part of the celebration and have the chance to meet Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi via email simply by recreating their iconic breast bulge movement using the Remix for Reels feature on Instagram.
An insightful story of friendship, partnership, brotherhood, ambition, and hard work, the series also encapsulates their meteoric rise and the much-publicized split that has become a subject of heated speculation. The impressive trailer for ‘BREAK POINT’ has already sparked discussions as the tennis icons were among those who helped put Indian tennis on the world map.
This 7-part ZEE5 series is directed by the award-winning filmmaking duo Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari under their banner Earthsky Pictures. It is also the first time that they lead a project together and work with ZEE5. BREAK POINT will be available exclusively on ZEE5 from October 1st, 2021.
