Coronation Street favorite Leanne Battersby is forced into a dangerous situation to rescue son Simon in an exciting new story about ITV soap.
The grieving mother has to fight to save Simon after he gets into trouble, Corrie boss Iain Macleod has revealed.
Viewers watched Leanne last year fight to save son Oliver after developing an incurable condition.
He died, leaving Leanne devastated, and her grief will fuel the next story.
Iain told the press, “We’re trying to find a way with Simon and Leanne to play their grief that doesn’t feel like the grief stories we’ve made.

“We came up with something that starts off pretty small. In the end, however, it becomes this colossal, high-octane, thriller-like piece that will be released in the first six months of 2021.
“It ends with Simon being driven by grief and placing himself in an inevitable situation.”
He went on to say it forces Leanne to “put on her war paint” to defend her remaining son – and that she is in an “incredibly dangerous situation” to protect him.

“That makes Nick and Sam draw,” Iain continued. “And it also collides with the love story of Peter and Carla. It’s a sad story. “
Iain also said that there will be no such thing as “a woman sits alone” and “being sad”.
He added, “We were very interested in using Leanne’s grief as a launch pad for something exciting. I think we achieved this without feeling like we were doing the Oliver story a disservice.
“The risk when you go out and do something really unusual with a grief story is that it feels insensitive. But I really don’t think it is.

“It pays off wonderfully and turns into something brilliant and exciting in the end.
“Stories that focus on a character experiencing a very tragic event can sometimes add a dark and brooding tone to everything they have been doing for years.
“We really wanted to avoid that and I think we did it pretty cleverly.”
