Line of Duty Season 6: Steve, Kate and Ted

Line of Duty Season 6 has landed, meaning Steve, Kate and Ted are back – but what do we know about AC-12 beyond their personal lives?

The first rule of TV cop shows is that there is a complicated personal life behind every officer.

And in five frenetic series we got some fascinating insights into what happens when Steve, Kate and Ted from AC-12 are not on duty.

In the sixth season of Line of Duty, Adrian Dunbar returns as Ted Hastings (Image Credit: World Productions / Steffan Hill / BBC).

Ted Hastings’ personal life

First the gaffer. In the second series it became clear that after 37 years in Ted Hastings’ marriage, everything was not all right.

His wife, Roisin, joined Belfast-born Ted as he drank and dined his new recruits – Steve and Georgia (Jessica Raine) – just to keep the atmosphere very chilly.

We discovered that Ted was in the kennel after losing his savings and some on a seedy real estate project in his native Ireland.

After the family home was sold, Roisin found herself in a shabby apartment (where she was attacked by John Corbett in series five).

Ted, meanwhile, lived Alan Partridge style in a budget hotel with only laptop porn to keep him warm.

But as a devout Catholic, Ted believes marriage is for it It is life and his heart’s desire to win back Roisin.

In the fourth series, the superintendent resisted the charms of horny attorney Gill Biggeloe (Polly Walker), though he didn’t overlook her curves as she paced by in her pencil skirt.

In one poignant moment, Ted admitted Steve: “We got married when we were eighteen … it was always just her”, but Roisin dropped the bomb that she hit someone else and broke his heart with a zinger.

You want a better future. You have it. I found mine. “

Steve Arnott’s ex-girlfriends

Someone who isn’t actually a one-man woman is Steve Arnott. The first clue to his eye for the ladies was his flirtation with the waitress and witness Nadzia in the first series.

In the second series, he and Georgia Trotmann met through the hospital window the night before their unfortunate early exit!

Steve was upset but not enough to prevent him from getting off with the nurse who witnessed the attack, and the incriminating photos of them were later used against him by Lindsay Denton (Keeley Hawes).

It was later, of course, the subject of his most notorious involvement. Indeed, when Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) pointed out his habit of “banging witnesses and suspects,” he doesn’t really have a leg to stand on (even before the balaclava man put him in a wheelchair).

Of course, he also has a preference for fellow officers. As well as Georgia and Lindsay, there was a Romance with DI Nicola ‘Jolly’ Rogerson.

What happened to Steve Arnott and ex Sam Railston?

However, it was the homicide squad’s detective, Sam Railston (Aisha Hart), who stole his heart. In the third series they were celebrating their first birthday and Steve declared, “I just want to be with you.”

But when he was framed and arrested as a caddy, Sam dropped him … her later attempt to rekindle her flame falls flat and Steve, the former infamous swordsman, fails to face the opportunity.

We last saw him take a half-hearted slap on a dating app (a message to the glamorous Tina Watts, who realized with eagle eyes that it was Martin’s real wife, Tianna).

And he popped painkillers like they were smarties…. a sign of trouble in the sixth season of Line of Duty.

Line of duty: Kate Fleming’s husband

Kate seemed to be the rarest animal at first – a happily married copper. But it soon turned out that her relationship with IT boffin Mark, with whom she shares little son Josh, couldn’t be everything.

She played with Richard Akers, husband of Jayne, her best buddy from police training college.

After Jayne was murdered in the ambush of the second series, Kate asked to be taken out of her friend’s case.

But she had no qualms about keeping her husband away. Although she was still officially with Mark, the undercover stress soon took its toll.

Kate ended up in her car and knocked on the door once drunk after Mark changed the locks before being picked up by Steve, who brought her back to sleep on the sofa.

In the third series, Kate narrowly avoided involvement with ‘Dot’ Cottan, who proved his affection was real by ultimately taking a bullet for her.

Kate Fleming and her son

And tongues wagged Kate’s domestic ailments. “You have a son you barely see,” mocked Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton), who barely qualifies himself as mother of the year, in the fourth series.

But in the fifth series, Kate said to Steve, “Me and Mark do everything and I can be a real mom. You’re next … to settle down … “(Hmm … we’ll believe this when we see it.)

But Kate can’t resist giving AC-12 everything and was stabbed when John Corbett’s wife spat, “Undercover, it’s the perfect job for selfish assholes.”

The fifth series ended on signs that Mark was struggling and wondered why Kate wasn’t spending more time at home with a promotion.

Expect him to be disappointed when seriously exciting things are expected for the sixth series.
