Emmerdale character Liv Flaherty has been a popular character since her first appearance in 2016.
A few months ago, Liv found out that Paul Ashdale had molested his son Vinny – her boyfriend.
Liv confronted the gambling addict Paul on his wedding day in the wedding barn. However, he soon turned violent and started beating her.
A short time later, Jimmy accidentally crashed his truck through the barn and Paul was trapped.

Liv tried to save Paul, but when he started threatening her, she left. Moments later the barn exploded and Paul later died.
Consumed with guilt, Liv began to drink. Liv has struggled with alcohol addiction in the past.
That’s what entertainment Daily soap writer Charlotte Rodrigues thinks of this plot.
Emmerdale: Liv’s violent outburst is too atypical
We recently saw Liv flee the village to stay with her mother Sandra.
Meanwhile, Vinny was struggling to cope with Liv’s alcohol addiction and it was clear that he was afraid that she would be like his father and become violent.
Although the two characters struggled with the addiction, Liv had never been violent. While Paul really showed his cruel and manipulative streak.
I think it’s fair to say we all cheered when the barn exploded with him inside (I’m not sorry).
But on today’s episode of the soap (Wednesday June 16), Liv wanted Vinny to try their relationship again and move back to Mill Cottage with her and Aaron.
Vinny told her that she needed real help and that he would support her, but they couldn’t have a relationship.
Liv didn’t like that, however, and viewers saw a side of her that they didn’t have before.
She cruelly told Vinny that he hated her for doing what he didn’t have the courage to do. She called him pathetic and said that even though Paul was dead, Vinny was still afraid of him.
When the two started arguing, Aaron went on and saw them both.
Vinny told Liv that her cruel words were the reason they couldn’t be together. However, I was completely taken aback when Liv then hit Vinny.
Liv’s whole point in going up against Paul was to put an end to Vinny’s abuse, but it seems like she’s only just beginning to take it over.
Whenever she doesn’t get her way, she just takes it out on Vinny.
It seemed totally out of character for Liv to hit Vinny. Even in her worst times, I never thought she would put a finger on someone she loved.
Liv is stuck
I think it would take it too far to say that the character is ruined for good. If she did start abusing Vinny like Paul did, then I’d say it’s hard for her to see a way back.
However, I believe Liv is stuck in a cycle and refuses to help when she really needs it.

Hope she hurts Vinny is the turning point she needs to seek help.
I want to add that Isobel Steele did an incredible job with this act and is amazing at portraying Liv.
It will be good to see what the future holds for Liv – when she gets the help she needs and deserves.
