The Madras Supreme Court today overturned the injunction granted to Sikhya Entertainment, paving the way for 2D Entertainment and Abundantia Entertainment to proceed with the remake of the Hindi version of the critically acclaimed Tamil blockbuster Soorarai Pottru. Sikhya Entertainment had filed an injunction against 2D Entertainment and Abundantia Entertainment not to continue the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru.
According to sources, 2D Entertainment alleged that it had paid Sikhya Entertainment a huge sum to enable the acquisition of the rights to Captain Gopinath’s book “Simply Fly”, apart from the actual rights money paid by 2D Entertainment.
Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, became a blockbuster. It was shown at the 78th Golden Globe Awards and the 2020 Academy Awards. It also became the most-watched regional language film in Amazon Prime Video history in India. The film is also currently the third highest rated film on IMDb, with a rating of 9.1, just behind The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather. The film was recently named Best Picture and Best Actor at the IFFM 2021 Awards.
The Hindi version of the critically acclaimed film is directed by Sudha Kongara, who also directed the original. In July of this year, 2D Entertainment announced its partnership with Abundantia Entertainment to produce the Hindi remake of the film, which work is now in full swing.
