Bear Grylls teams up with Nicola Adams tonight as the avid adventurer teaches his companion the basic skills she needs to survive on the rugged terrain of Dartmoor.
While testing her limits, Bear – and the show’s viewers – can also learn more about the two-time Olympic champion.
Before you tune in, here’s a head start: Read on to find out more about her incredible life so far …
What are the main highlights of Nicolas boxing career?
Nicola Adams OBE is a Leeds born professional boxer who competed between 2017 and 2019.
She fought and won her first boxing match when she was only 13 years old. Nicola made history in 2001 at the age of 19 when she became the first female boxer to represent England in a fight against an Irish boxer.
The successes continued for Nicola. In the summer of 2012, she secured the first Olympic gold medal in women’s boxing after beating the Chinese flyweight boxer and reigning world champion Ren Cancan.
That victory also made her the first open LGBT person to win Olympic gold.

In 2016 Nicola won her second Olympic gold victory in a row. From the end of May this year it is was the reigning Olympic, world and European games Flyweight champion.
After turning pro in 2019, however, Nicola had to retire from the sport after the first defense of her world title – a match against Maria Salinas – tore her student apart.
“I was told that any further action on my eye would most likely result in irreparable damage and permanent vision loss,” she wrote in an open letter in the Yorkshire Evening Mail.
Nicola Adams’ achievements are not easily forgotten despite her premature and sudden end to her career: in 2013 she became an MBE, in 2017 OBE for services to boxing.
Where else did I see Nicola Adams?
Aside from the obvious, think back to the late noughties and you might have seen Nicola in the background of your favorite soaps!
Before the International Olympic Committee helped fund women’s boxing in 2009, she was an extra in various episodes of Corrie, Emmerdale and EastEnders, and even worked as a builder as she struggled to self-fund her professional sports career.
“It’s great fun and the actors are all kind to me,” Adams said at the time.
And although she can no longer keep up as a boxer, the 38-year-old mostly swapped boxing gloves for dance shoes last year when she joined the 2020 cast of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Nicola returned to the screens, this time as the front runner, and made headlines for dating Katya Jones in Strictly’s first same-sex pairing.
Unfortunately, her time in the ballroom was cut short after Katya caught Covid-19 and both had to bow down to self-isolate.
Nicola, although devastated, thanked her dance partner: “It pushed me way out of my comfort zone and it was an incredible experience. “

Is Nicola in a relationship?
That’s it, and fortunately!
Nicola met her model partner Ella Baig (23) during a night in Leeds in 2018. They have been together ever since.
The couple publicly celebrated their 3rd anniversary yesterday with a compilation of romantic retrospective photos.
Nicola and Ella bought their first house up north together in 2019 and even share a dog named Brooklyn.
