Earlier this week, Piers became aware of the campaign and kindly donated £ 1,000 of his own money to encourage his followers to give what they could.

What did Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan say?

He wrote: “This is absolutely disgusting. What a shocking way to treat a great British hero. Let’s get Len his money back. I have 1,000 pounds, who is with me? “

The GMB host responded to a tweet from Yorkshire Post journalist James Mitchinson that read, “Friends of ours, can you help? This gentleman – a @RoyalAirForce veteran – didn’t deserve this.

That is absolutely disgusting. What a shocking way to treat a great British hero.

“His story is full of victims and yet here he is. What is stolen from him is a small fortune. We can help him, right? We can. Together.”

The amount shown in Len’s fundraiser increased by thousands.

As of Thursday afternoon, it showed well over £ 21,000 – much more than the £ 3,000 target.

Len saved up for home repairs

Len explained on GMB: “I was home for about two days, I went upstairs and lo and behold, there is no safe there … it was bolted to the floor but they used a crowbar to get it out and take it away.”

Ben asked him how he felt when he saw it was gone.

The veteran said to him, “It’s not just the money, it’s your documents, your passport, that sort of thing … the confusion you have to go through to get your bank books back is really a little rough.”

Susanna called what had happened “hideous” and slammed the “despicable” thieves behind it.

Len said he saved the money because “something went wrong” at his house.
