“They are no longer active members of the royal family and do not represent the royal family in any way.
“Your trip to New York was a glorified tourist trip.
“There were no crowds and the vast majority of the people around them were NYPD officials who carried guns to protect them.”
Mr. Rae continued, “You have made it clear that you want a private life but are constantly invading your own privacy.
“Nobody should make the mistake of showing up that they represent the royal family. You are not.”
He added, “You have made the decision to retire as working members of the royal family.”
During their New York trip, the couple also visited school children in Harlem and enjoyed a restaurant date in the neighborhood.
Harry and Meghan resigned from their senior royal roles last March.
They have since moved to America to start their lives and welcomed their second child – a daughter named Lilibet – in June.
