For the past three decades, AR Rahman has single-handedly changed the syntax of film music in India, brought it around the world and won hearts around the world. Rahman Music Sheets traces the incredible journey that made AR Rahman a household name not just in India but around the world.
To document the nuances of Rahman’s compositions, his style, and his approach to each track, the annual series will feature many loyal representatives of Indian and world cinema. They are – Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma, Subhash Ghai, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Deepa Mehta, Shekhar Kapur, Gulzar, Bharat Bala, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Danny Boyle, Imtiaz Ali, Shyam Benegal, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Hariharani, Sivamani Yagnik, Yagnik & AR Rahman themselves.
The first episode features Mani Ratnam, Director – Roja, who was the launch pad for AR Rahman. As a result, Mani Ratnam remembers how he put Rahman to an acid test before Roja. The result – with Roja, AR Rahman changed the texture of Indian film music forever. However, Rahman’s fee as music director was only Rs.25,000 / – (US $ 500).
