Rita is to be reunited with someone from her past

Coronation Street character Rita will be reunited with someone from her past while Leanne’s plot takes a turn, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has revealed.

Rita has been an integral part of ITV soap since joining as a regular character in 1972.

But it looks like she’s going to be reunited with someone from her past this year.

Speaking to Entertainment Daily and other media outlets, Iain teased, “What I’m most excited about is the Leanne story, which I know was a bit vague. I find it incredibly exciting.

“At a certain point, Rita will be attracted to it too – and there will be an explosion from the past for Rita that emerges from this story.

For Rita, there will be an explosion from the past.

“I really think this story will end where you least expect it when you see it in the New Year. I think it’s really fabulous. “

Leanne’s current story

Last year Leanne was broken when her son Oliver died.

In the past few weeks she has been telling her family that she is staying in France. However, she actually lived alone in her apartment.

But this week her eldest son Simon will find out that she was left alone in the apartment.

Explaining how the soap will explore Leanne and Simon’s grief, he said, “We’re trying to find a way with Simon and Leanne to play their grief that doesn’t feel like grief stories that we and other shows may have done .

“We came up with something that starts off small but eventually morphs into this colossal, high-octane, thriller-like piece that will be out in the first six months of next year.

“We really wanted to use Leanne’s grief as a launch pad for something exciting. I think we achieved this without feeling like we were doing the Oliver story a disservice. “

Coronation Street airs Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Fridays at 7.30 a.m. there is an hour-long episode on ITV.
