Saif says of his character: “My character in Tandav – we are talking about this politician who is powerful and dangerous because of his reaction. And I was drawn to the character because you don’t know what he thinks, he has this mysterious, calm exterior, but what goes on behind the scenes is pretty dramatic and anything can happen. So it’s entertaining to look at and of course to believe in so that it can go any length and I find that kind of response interesting, and I’ve gone through a phase where maybe few of these roles have come together and some of these negative roles I was drawn to are very well written, better written than some positive characters you’ve heard of, if you think so. I don’t think in those terms. I am thinking of an interesting job, you live at home, life is good, you have your family, you have your approach to life. Very important to work on creative satisfaction and anything but what you are going to play ?! So if it’s interesting and preoccupied you come home and forget about it and move on with your life. “

He also shares, “So I’ll just choose something that’s worth leaving home for. So many times we’re away from our family that we stay in a hotel, so it’s better worth it. So Tanhaji and Tandav had darker tones that were frankly fascinating to play because they have a lot more fun than the straight guys that are on screen in my head at least. That’s why I’m doing this. But I don’t know if I’ll keep doing it. “
