Death in Paradise Camille: who is she?

Camille is an insured, no-nonsense policeman who is eternally amazed and fascinated by the curious British detectives that the Met repeatedly sent to the island.

She worked with DI Richard Poole until his brutal murder and then with his replacement DI Humphrey Goodman.

Richard’s murder in the opening scenes of the third series clearly angered her and she was reluctant to accept his successor.

However, they eventually got close.

Camille wasn’t aware of the fact that Humphrey’s feelings went a little beyond friendship.

Raised by her French mother in Saint Marie, Camille is intelligent, quick-witted and independent.

Death in Paradise Camille: why and how did she go?

She left Saint Marie to return to Paris and work undercover.

Camille left the series at the end of the fourth series.

She left DI Humphrey Goodman with a kiss goodbye and followed their long-standing will-they-won’t-them relationship.

At the time of her departure, Sara Martins announced that she was finding the decision to quit the show “enormously difficult”.

She said yes [quitting was] extremely difficult.

“I loved everything about the show. The only way to grow in life is to take risks, even if it means losing something you love or leaving a place that’s comfortable.

“You should always go forward and take on new challenges. The unknown is so seductive, despite being scary! “
