Soaps need to stop covering the same plots

In soaps like Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks, they usually cover highly competitive plots.

It’s not uncommon for soaps to cover similar storylines around the same time. However, for the past two years, all four British soaps have dealt with drug stories.

While these acts are designed to educate viewers and spread awareness, was it a mistake for all four soaps to do similar acts close together?

The soap – drug stories are made so close together

In the few weeks, Coronation Street will start a new story in which Simon Barlow will become involved in a drug gang.

However, I can’t help but feel like doing a similar act this close together isn’t a good idea for every soap.

Some people may joke that the soaps copy each other with their storylines.

But it is always wise to remember that this is not about copying the plot. Every soap takes an action and makes it its own.

Of course, EastEnders could end up doing an act similar to one that takes place in Emmerdale around the same time.

However, Hollyoaks, EastEnders, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street have been doing this act for the past two years using the Drugs / County Lines storylines.

If you look at more than one of the soaps, this can be a bit repetitive.

In 2019, EastEnders fans saw Tiffany get involved in the sale and delivery of drugs for a gang.

It was an incredible story. Not only did it show how children can be cared for by these gangs, but also how those closest to the children cannot see it.

Hollyoaks is currently broadcasting a drug story. Sid is currently working to bring down chief drug dealer Victor.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street Latest Drug Stories

At Emmerdale, Sarah Sugden Jr. gave a fourth thought to helping drug dealer Danny.

Recently she seems to have ended his business with him. But he’s returned once, could he come again?

Meanwhile, Simon starts selling drugs in Corrie as he and his mother Leanne need the money after she has lost her job.

Although the storylines have their differences, in my opinion it would have been better if the storylines were longer.

The difference between each storyline

While I’m not interested in all four soaps being that close, I’m actually really impressed with how each soap approached the storylines.

While they were told close together, each one is different and focuses on a different aspect of the story.

Hollyoaks and EastEnders were very focused on how young children are cared for by drug dealers.

Meanwhile, Emmerdale showed Sarah how to dive into the world of drugs to make her life a little more exciting.

And in Corrie, Simon tries to get money to support his mother Leanne, who no longer works because she has the heartache of losing her other son Oliver.
