Following Slumdog Millionaire and Gullyboy, Mumbaikar seeks to view the Mumbai metro scene through the lives of interwoven characters that make up its rich, if sometimes light and sometimes dark, landscape. This, when explored through the director’s sensitivity to the cameraman’s lens of ace director Santosh Sivan’s, will bring to light the myriad of hues of Mumbai.
Santosh Sivan says, “Every city has its own spirit, just like Mumbai, which is synonymous with the spirit of resilience. Mumbai is a magnet. It attracts aspirants from all over India, both in terms of the region and in terms of religion. It is the city of dreams, the city of hope, the city of magic for many. A stranger can change your life here. And in the middle of the concrete jungle there is a heartbeat that heals! Mumbai may be a metropolis, but Mumbaikar is an emotion! Hence the title. In terms of cast, we have a fascinating and interesting mix of national talent. And that adds to the magic. “
