Tracks viewers rumble on major filming locations and it’s not Scotland!

The BBC drama Traces started last night and eagle-eyed viewers couldn’t help but notice something strange about the locations.

The crime thriller starring Molly Windsor as Emma Hedges’ new forensic lab assistant is set in Dundee, Scotland.

What did BBC viewers say about drama traces?

However, on Twitter, some viewers at home noticed how much the city looked like Bolton.

That’s because the producers shot much of the six-part drama in the great city of Greater Manchester.

Some expressed surprise while others felt betrayed and asked why it wasn’t just filmed in Dundee.

One said, “Using Bolton Town Center in #Traces for Dundee scenes. What rubbish. Bolton, I’m sure Dundee is fine. “

Another wrote: “#Traces It WAS Bolton!”

A third tweeted: “#Traces Dundee appears to be very similar in many settings to the Northern Quarter Manchester and Bolton.”

A fourth said, “Wow! Dundee looks a lot like Bolton #Traces. “

“Bad continuity in #traces,” said a fifth. “Set in Dundee, but city center clips from Bolton in England.”

Someone else repeated this and wrote, “This is Bolton. You can blur anything you want, but this is definitely Bolton. # Traces. “

Others noticed parts of Bury, which is also in Greater Manchester.

Some didn’t seem too happy about it. One pointed this out, using a frustrated face emoji.

Another called it strange and asked, “I suppose there weren’t any suitable places available in Scotland?” while another tweeted, “So many lies!”

Speak with Radio times, Star Laura Fraser – who plays Prof. Sarah Gordon in the drama – said she didn’t film any scenes north of the border.

She said, “I couldn’t actually film for that in Scotland. It’s set in Dundee, but they actually only shot a week in Dundee. It was all Manchester. “

And the deputy location manager Laura Power said in an interview with Creative England: “We found some fantastic places, especially in Bolton, where we used old retail space and then also opposite church buildings.”

Manchester-based RED Production is the company behind the program.

Bolton News reported that filming was taking place in Victoria and Nelson Squares in the city. The footage also showed Le Mans Crescent, including the old magistrate building.
