The Netflix series is anything but a faithful adaptation of the novel. In fact, it changes some key details.

“For example, how are we going to make this the best, most shocking, relatable, and wildest ride on a TV show? And Netflix knew that this was the best way to get the ex-boyfriend into today’s situation. “
However, she cautions against trying the portrayal in the Netflix adaptation of their relationship in real life.
She added, “As a viewer, you want to see them connect in real time. So I thought it was a brilliant decision. But in real life? Not a good idea.”
