In March 2014, Prunella’s husband, Timothy West, told The Guardian that she had Alzheimer’s disease.

The couple discussed practical measures on a radio show on aging and dementia on BBC Radio 4 in December 2014.

In June 2018, her husband described her short-term memory as “not at all good”.

Why were Fawlty Towers deleted?

Actors and co-writers John Cleese and Connie Booth both left the show before season three – possibly because of their failed marriage.

She was reportedly unwilling to participate and practically withdrew from public life after completing the first series.

She was initially unwilling to work on a second series, which explains the four year gap between productions.

Connie Booth refused to talk about Fawlty Towers for 30 years until she agreed to participate in a 2009 documentary about the series for the digital channel Gold.

Andrew Sachs, who played Manuel on the series, sadly passed away in November 2016.

Fawlty Towers will repeat on BBC One starting Monday March 15, 2021 at 8:30 p.m.
