What happened in Marcella’s second series?

Marcella is a bad memory cop – not especially when you’re hunting dangerous criminals.

Anna Friel won an international Emmy for her performance in the role.

During the course of the second season, Marcella lost everything – her children, her job, her boyfriend and her identity.

At the end of the second series, she was officially “dead”.

She was faced with the child killer she had hunted in climate scenes all season.

After rescuing Edward, she also made a shocking discovery about her past.

In disturbing scenes, Marcella discovered that she had accidentally killed her baby Juliette by shaking her too hard.

Marcella, plagued by guilt over the incident that happened years earlier, gave her ex-husband Jason sole custody of their children.

The audience then saw her about to throw herself off a building until her colleague Rav talked her off the edge.

In even more dramatic scenes, Marcella attacked Rav with a toilet lid and handcuffed him to the edge of a cubicle.

Then she cut off all the hair and cut the edge of her mouth with scissors.

At the end of the episode we see Marcella sleeping rough under a bridge.

What disorder does Marcella have?

Marcella has a type of dissociative identity disorder (DID) that causes her to suffer violent power outages.

In moments of intense stress, she enters an amnesic state.

As a result, Marcella does and says things that she later cannot remember.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, actress Anna Friel stated that the series is largely a drama, not a documentary, and is therefore not intended to be a pinpoint depiction of the disorder.

Why is Marcella covered in series three?

Marcella is considered dead and is now working undercover.

She has infiltrated a criminal family in Belfast and is known by her code name Keira.

But with Marcella it’s never been so easy …

The undercover cop begins to enjoy the family’s luxury life a little too much and begins to become part of the Maguire world.

Viewers watch her run into Maguire Matriarch Katherine, played by Amanda Burton.

Is Keira / Marcella striving to take full control of the family?

Does she even want her old life back?

Viewers can watch the third series as a stand-alone series without having seen series one and two.
