The Handmaid’s Tale Catch-Up: What Happened in Season 3?

The show’s third season was mostly focused on Emily’s escape to Canada after she took Baby Nichole with her.

At the end of the second season, the two managed to escape Gilead with the help of Commandant Lawrence.

Emily – played by Alexis Bledel – gave Nichole to June’s husband Luke and her best friend Moira.

It was from there that she lived them before reuniting with her own wife and son Oliver.

In Gilead, the Waterfords tried desperately to get Nichole back.

After Fred (Joseph Fiennes) blamed Emily, Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) came forward and revealed she was letting Nichole go.

She tried to commit suicide before being stopped in June (Elisabeth Moss).

Serena visited her mother Pamelia, where she tried again to commit suicide.

She had a change of heart, however, and continued to fight for Nichole’s return throughout the season.

The Magd’s Tale catch-up: What happened to June?

In the meantime, June was transferred to Lawrence’s household as a maid.

Although Commandant Lawrence and June helped Emily, they did not get along.

Unlike traditional Gilead practice, however, Lawrence did not force June to have sex with him.

Later in the series, June traveled to Washington with the Waterfords to attend a television broadcast.

Together with Aunt Lydia, she was ashamed when she noticed that the servants’ lips were permanently closed with ring piercings.

June also met briefly with her daughter Hannah.

The Handmaid’s Tale catch-up: What happened during the finale?

In the final episode of season three, titled Mayday, June successfully devised an escape plan from Gilead to Canada.

With Lawrence’s help, June managed to get 52 children, Marthas, and servants onto a waiting plane.

However, she did not get on the plane herself and was shot and killed by one of Gilead’s guards.

Meanwhile, Moira, Luke, and Emily hit the plane in Canada.

But what does that mean for June and the remaining servants in season four?

When does season 4 start?

The award-winning drama is slated to be broadcast on Channel 4.

Watch the much-anticipated episode on Sunday June 20th at 9 p.m.
