The reality show is also out of the ordinary – it features a family-run funeral home in Memphis.
With that said, here is everything you need to know about the series and the amazing Bernard family.
What is Buried By The Bernards on Netflix about?
In 2017, Ryan Bernard opened the doors to R Bernard Funeral Services in Memphis, Tennessee.
Ryan offered complete yet affordable funeral packages to help his community cope with high funeral costs.
And this eight-episode series on the streaming service shows Ryan and his family how they run the company through its toughest times.

According to Netflix, the family survived this intense labor with “some understanding, a pinch of sarcasm and a heaping spoon of blatant honesty.”
“This unorthodox funeral home is only surpassed by the unconventional Bernard family themselves,” it said.
Why did the Bernards get a series on Netflix?
Bernard Funeral Services did a television advertisement in 2018 selling their services.
It showed a dead person in a coffin who was so shocked by the company’s low prices that he sat up and asked to be taken to Bernard’s funeral home.
The ad then went viral and gained worldwide notoriety.
Shortly thereafter, Bernard Funeral Services also introduced a drive through service, where customers could see and respect their deceased loved ones through a window outside the building.
In COVID times, this option has become an important feature.
Who are the characters?
Ryan is the business owner and father of Deja and Reagan.
The show also features Ryan’s Uncle Kevin – a larger-than-life character who helps run the house.
And then there’s the family’s matriarch, Ryan’s mother, Debbie.
Ryan describes Debbie as a combination of “Kim Jong-un, Stalin and Mussolini”.
Everyone had something to contribute.
But Debbie said that Memphis Flyer Site their whole family chips in.
“Ryan was actually the greatest.
“He had to go to class, go to the morgue, do the corpse test and everything.”
She also said that her role in the company is “research and development”.
What did people say about the drive-thru aspect?
Prior to the COVID pandemic, the Bernards’ memorial service was a destination for comedians.
Ryan said he would have to attend talk shows to defend the legitimacy of the operation.
Although the series was filmed before the COVID pandemic hit, the drive-thru element is now important.
“It has helped families too,” he says.
When will it start?
Buried By The Bernards launches on Netflix this Friday (February 12th).
And while the family will do a lot of comedy, Ryan wants the show to be serious about their business.

“Obviously, my uncle Kevin and my mother can play a fool. They’ll do that anyway, ”Ryan joked.
