New documentary on Channel 5 The Disappearance of Shannon Matthews sheds new light on the bizarre case and connection between Karen and Kate McCann.
Karen Matthews staged the disappearance of her daughter, nine-year-old Shannon, in 2008.
However, she still claims to this day that she was not involved in the kidnapping of her daughter.

Shannon was found safe and sound after a 24-day manhunt. She was under a bed in the house of Karen’s friend Michael Donovan.
As a result, it was alleged that Karen and Michael came up with the scheme to get money that she believed the parents of the missing Madeleine McCann were getting at the time.

Karen reportedly caught media attention that Madeline McCann’s parents got.

“Don’t get me on the McCanns, we all have something to say.
“We’re too low for them, but we can still have an opinion. There seems to be one rule for her and another for us, but she was a terrible mother. “
What happened to Karen Matthews?
Karen served four years of her eight-year prison sentence.
The ashamed mother left prison with a new identity.
However, her past has reportedly made it impossible for her to start a new life and she is reportedly living on government handouts.
The abduction of Shannon Matthews was investigated in a BBC drama, The Moorside, which aired in 2017 and which starred Sheridan Smith.

In December, Karen was looking for an apartment with her fiancé Paul Saunders.
Paul is a convicted sex offender.
In 2010, he admitted engaging in sexual activities with the teenager, took indecent pictures of her, and performed two sexual assaults.
