When did Shannon Matthews disappear?

First, Karen Matthews reported that her daughter was missing on February 19, 2008.

Nine year old Shannon has disappeared outside Westmoor Junior School in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

She had gone swimming but had not returned home.

Her mother Karen called the police and a hunt for the little girl began.

Shannon’s Disappearance: the note

After three days, police officers revealed that Shannon had expressed a desire to leave the house.

Shannon Matthews: The reward

The Sun offered a reward of £ 20,000 on March 1, 2008, eleven days after Shannon’s disappearance.

The newspaper asked everyone with information to come forward.

This was later increased to £ 50,000 on March 12, 2008, another 12 days later.

Karen’s behavior arose during the investigation.

Where did you find Shannon Matthews?

Shannon was found hiding in a sofa bed in a house occupied by Michael Donovan in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire.

Michael tied her up and sedated her to keep her calm and stop her from escaping.

He was the uncle of Karen Matthews’ friend, Craig Meehan.

Michael, who was born Paul Drake, had learning difficulties with an IQ only about half the national average.

He was arrested at the scene, and Karen was arrested on April 8, 2008 weeks later.

They then both spent four years in prison planning the program – apparently just for money and fame.

Where is Shannon Matthews now?

Shannon is currently 21 years old and lives under a new identity.

She was given a new identity and family and her location can never be disclosed.

She has no contact with her birth mother, Karen, whose six children were all looked after for their own protection.

Most importantly, Shannon is protected for life due to a lifetime restriction on reporting and lifetime anonymity.
