Updated:

Fans of The Repair Shop might be a little annoyed tonight (Wednesday, April 14, 2021) as the start of the new series has been withdrawn from the program.

Instead of the eighth series of the popular repair show, viewers see the MasterChef finals instead.

The grand finale of Gregg Wallace and John Torode’s cooking show should have ended last week.

However, Prince Philip’s death on Friday April 9, 2021 affected all schedules.

When is the workshop in operation?

The new series from The Repair Shop starts on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 8 p.m. on BBC One.

This means that the series has been postponed for a week.

The series should continue every Wednesday through July 21, 2021 – subject to changes to the schedule, obvs!

Although viewers have to wait for the new eighth series to begin, the daily version continues at 4:30 p.m. every weekday.

How many episodes does the eighth series have?

There are 14 episodes in the new eighth series of The Repair Shop on BBC One.

In the first episode, Jay Blades and the team are restoring a ship-shaped clock, a ceramic night light, a 1960s skateboard, and a teddy bear accompanying a young man through a life-changing operation.

In the second episode, the conservator Lucia Scalisi welcomes a historical portrait of Charles II in the barn.

Goldsmith Richard Talman faces the delicate task of putting the broken pieces of an engagement ring back together while Zanzibar-born Mahbuba hopes silversmith Brenton West and wood expert Will Kirk can restore a family heirloom.

Meanwhile, the stuffed animal specialists Amanda and Julie are entrusted with a very special donkey that served as a comfort blanket for a boy who has lost his mother.

Why did MasterChef replace The Repair Shop?

The MasterChef finale was scheduled to air on Friday, April 9th, 2021.

However, due to news coverage of Prince Philip’s death, it was postponed.

All BBC television on channels one and two was scrapped for that night, replaced with tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh and rolling news.

The MasterChef finals will now be broadcast on Wednesday April 14th at 8 p.m. and will replace The Repair Shop.

Complaints about Prince Philip’s reporting

MasterChef and The Repair Shop fans weren’t the only ones complaining about wall-to-wall coverage on the BBC last Friday.

The planning drew the most complaints in BBC history.

A viewer who wrote on the website said: “The coverage of this event took up the entire evening broadcast, excluding all other topics, including the ongoing topic of the pandemic.

“A certain amount of coverage was warranted, but not to this extent.”

According to The Guardian, Jerry Springer: The Opera was the BBC’s most criticized show in 2005.

The repair shop starts its eighth series on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 8 p.m. on BBC One.
