The new Netflix documentary Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime leaves viewers stunned.
The murder of Elize’s husband Marcos is one of the most sensational cases Brazil has ever seen.
The scandal has rocked the South American country, and thanks to the new documentation, everyone can talk about it again.
Who is Elize Matsunaga?
Elize Ramos Kitano Matsunaga is notorious in Brazil.
She became a household name after confessing to murdering her husband Marcos Kitano Matsunaga. At the time of the incident, she had a one-year-old daughter.
Elize says she found out that Marcos is having an affair.
In a fit of anger, she is said to have shot him several times in her apartment.
However, the bloodshed did not end.
Marcos was still alive and conscious when his throat was cut.
Elize is then said to have dismembered his body and scattered the pieces along a nearby road. Some parts of Marcos’ body were tragically never found.
“I still don’t know how to explain the emotions that made me pull that trigger,” she says in the documentary. “There are some secrets that I’ll take with me to the grave.”
Elize initially tried to cover up the murder but eventually confessed to the police. When his family became concerned about his whereabouts, Elize claimed he ran away with his lover.

However, the decapitated head of Marcos was discovered nine days later.
Her trial became national news in Brazil in 2016 and caused an uproar across the country.
“I felt a great moral responsibility to direct this show,” said director Eliza Capai.
“Not just for Marcos’ family and friends who suffered from this tragedy. Also for Elize’s family, people who knew nothing about it, but who still suffer from the consequences to this day. “
Elize’s defense team described the murder as a crime of passion.
However, prosecutors claim Elize planned every detail before carrying out the gruesome attack.
Where is Elize Matsunaga now?
Elize is serving 19 years in prison for the murder and hiding of a corpse.
She is currently serving her sentence in a Sao Paulo prison.
In 2019, Elize’s sentence was reduced for confessing to killing her husband.
Therefore, she should now be released in 2035.
