Where is Death In Paradise filmed? This is a question that fans often ask themselves after each episode.
The series really offers something different when it comes to crime drama because of its tropical location – there are no stone-cold Nordic noirs here.
And with Series 11 now in full swing, it’s high time we took a look at some of the key locations.
We know the fictional island is called Saint Marie, but where in the world is that?
Where is Death In Paradise filmed?
The show will be filmed on the real Caribbean island of Guadalupe – Guadalupe as it is written there.
Guadalope is the name for the collection of about six islands – or archipelagos – lying south of Antigua and north of Dominica in the Caribbean.
The main islands of the archipelago are Basse-Terre, Grande-Terre, Marie-Galante, La Désirade and the two inhabited Îles des Saintes.

As the names of these islands suggest, they – and Guadeloupe as a whole – fall under French jurisdiction.
When it comes to specific locations, many of the locations you see in the series are on the island of Basse-Terre – meaning beaches as far as the eye can see.
In terms of Honoré, the “Capital of Saint Marie” is actually the town of Deshaies, where the cast and crew not only live but also film.
Where is Death In Paradise filmed? Is Guadalupe safe to visit?
Yes. You can visit Guadalupe and it is generally safe to visit.
However, given today’s world, it is always best to check entry requirements.
Hurricane season generally lasts from June through November, so again, it’s always best to check weather reports before you travel.
In terms of crime, Guadalupe records a low level of crime. But like anything, there are do’s and don’ts, so check out the government’s website here for the latest, cutting edge advice.
And don’t forget your mosquito repellent!
Can you visit the actual locations?
There’s a big yes for that.
Several enterprising travel companies have created special location tours that cover all of the show’s key locations.
We’re talking about the Honoré police station, which is actually the city’s church.
There’s more to explore though – you can walk to the gloriously lush Botanic Gardens (where Richard Poole was killed) which are just a short drive from Deshaies.
And then there’s the Langley Fort Royal Hotel, another staple of the show.
Does Catherine’s Bar really exist?
Catherine’s Bar has been in Deshaies since the third series.
Its real name is Le Madras, and you can sip cocktails or eat delicious food overlooking the ocean — just like the show’s cast members do in every episode.
Where is Death In Paradise filmed? What about Neville’s beach shack, does it exist?
Every British detective sent to Saint Marie – sorry, Guadalupe – always lives in this cute little beach shack.
Whether it’s Richard Poole, Humphrey Goodman, Jack Mooney or current resident Neville Parker, you’ll find beautiful beaches and ocean views… and a lizard named Henry.
We have good news and bad news.
The beach at Anse La Perle is real, but unfortunately the hut is not.

The hut is dismantled and stored between the shootings.
Executive producer Tim Key says there’s a good reason for that.
He told that radio times: “We had years where we left it to the elements, and then people would party in it on the weekends, like tourists partying.
“We thought, ‘We’ve got to secure this a little bit more now!'”
So there you have it… visit Guadalupe and enjoy the beautiful places. But just don’t expect to see the beach shack!
