Coronation Street character Bethany is featured in today’s episode (Wednesday January 13), but where is she?
During today’s visit to the cobblestones, Sarah talks to her husband Adam about Bethany.
But when and why did she leave Weatherfield?
Coronation Street: Who is Bethany Platt?
Bethany Platt is the daughter of Sarah Platt, also known as Sarah Barlow. She is also the granddaughter of Gail and the niece of David.
Sarah became pregnant with Bethany when she was 13 years old. Her biological father was Sarah’s classmate, Neil Fearns.
Neil was never involved in Bethany’s life. When Bethany was three years old, Neil died in a car accident.
Sarah was shocked by the news and took Bethany to the funeral, where Bethany met Neil’s mother, Brenda.
Brenda eventually abducted Bethany and threatened to jump out of a church bell tower, struggling with grief.
Emily Bishop was able to convince her to come down and Bethany was brought back to Sarah.
Who played Bethany Platt?
In 2000, Baby Bethany was played by Mia Cookson and twins Amy and Emily Walton.
Mia only played Bethany for a few episodes, however. Amy and Emily continued to play Bethany until 2007.
In 2007 Sarah and Bethany moved to Milan.
Bethany and Sarah stayed off screen until 2015 when Bethany ran back to Weatherfield from Milan.
The character was re-cast with actress Lucy Fallon, who took on the role.
What storylines was Bethany involved in?
Bethany has been involved in some major storylines her entire life. Bethany has been kidnapped four times in her life, more than we have been banned (so far!).
At a young age, she was kidnapped by her paternal grandmother, Brenda. Then she was kidnapped with Gail, Sarah and David by Gail’s serial killer husband Richard Hillman.
Richard tried to kill himself and the Platt family by going into the canal. But the serial killer is the only one who died in the crash.
Before David moved to Milan in 2007, he hid ecstasy pills in Bethany’s doll. In the end she took one.
When David realized what had happened, he made her drink salt to call up the pill, which inadvertently made it worse.
When David admitted what he’d done his family was disgusted and Gail kicked him out.
Upon her return to Weatherfield, Bethany was bullied at school by classmate Lauren.
Bethany – Nursing Storyline
But after the situation was resolved, Bethany was cared for by Nathan Curtis. She was raped by Nathan’s friends, including officer Neil Clifton.
Little did the manipulated teenager know that Nathan was asking his friends to sleep with her.
Bethany was kidnapped for the third time when Nathan tried to send her abroad. However, at a gas station, she asked a stranger for help. They called the police and Nathan was arrested.
Eventually Nathan, Neil, and the other men who were involved in Nathan’s foster ring were sent to prison.
Not long after his imprisonment, however, Neil’s daughter Kayla tried desperately to prove his innocence and befriended Bethany and Craig Tinker.
When Bethany was with Kayla, she saw a photo of Neil and realized who she was. Kayla tied Bethany up in the garage.
But Craig came and played Kayla Neil’s Confession. Kayla soon denied her father.
Why did Bethany leave?
In 2019, Bethany started a friendship with fellow bistro Daniel Osbourne. But Daniel was married to Sinead Tinker.
Bethany developed feelings for Daniel. Sinead was diagnosed with cancer and in her final weeks Daniel kissed Bethany.
After Sinead’s death, he soon began dating Bethany, which infuriated Sinead’s family.
The teenager realized, however, that Daniel wasn’t over Sinead when he suggested that she call her Sinead.
Bethany decided to do an internship in London and go alone. She currently still lives in London.
Will Lucy Fallon be returning to Coronation Street?
Despite leaving the show last year, Lucy has revealed that she would love to return to soap.
After Lucy announced her decision to leave the show, she told Mirror online: “I’m going to be sad, but I’m excited to see what will happen in the future, although I have no idea what will happen.”
