Who is Professor Chris Jackson?

Professor Chris Jackson is one of the UK’s finest geologists.

Based on his expertise, he was appointed Chair of Sustainable Geosciences at the University of Manchester in 2020.

His area of ​​interest is the tectonostratigraphic development of rift basins, salt tectonics as well as deep water sedimentology and stratigraphy.

Besides work, Chris obviously doesn’t put his feet up.

He has completed nine marathons, more than 30 half marathons and a couple of triathlons.

The adventurer is also an avid climber and hiker.

What is Chris Jackson famous for?

Prof. Chris is known for his research that focuses on sedimentary basins.

He has been described by the Geological Society of London as “the leading and most prolific interpreter of three-dimensional seismic reflection data of his generation”.

After receiving his doctorate in 2002, he was an exploration research geologist at the Norsk Hydro research center in Bergen.

He told the Guardian in 2017, “I don’t know of any other full-time black geoscientist in the UK – or even in Europe or the US.”

In the same year Chris took part in a dangerous mission to Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira.

These are two of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, located deep in the African Congo.

The expedition was then featured in the two-part BBC documentary Expedition Volcano.

How old is he?

Chris was born in 1977 and is 43 years old.

He was first born in Derby in an area geologically known as Widmerpool Gulf (a sedimentary basin).

He received a BSc in Geology from the University of Manchester in 1998.

Eventually Chris stayed at the university to do his PhD on the tectonostratigraphic evolution of sedimentary basins.

Does he have a wife?

Chris has a wife who is a teacher.

The couple have a four-year-old daughter named Olive and two older children, ages seven and nine.

Great British Menu Series 16, Episode 9 – Judges in London and the South East

The two top-scoring chefs from London and the South East are cooking their six-course meals again.

The chefs go head to head to impress the regular judges.

These include food writer Matthew Fort, restaurant manager Oliver Peyton and radio and food creative Rachel Khoo.

The geologist Professor Chris Jackson appears as a guest judge.

He judges dishes that celebrate British science and innovation.

Dishes include a lobster dish inspired by a computer algorithm used to celebrate Ada Lovelace.

Also a dessert that pays homage to the discovery of DNA.

Consequently, Chris has to help choose a winner.

The Great British Menu will continue on Friday 9 April 2021 at 7.30 p.m. on BBC Two.
