Jonny Lake is the newest chef to judge the remaining MasterChef candidates – but who is he?

Who is Jonny Lake?

Jonny Lake is a Canadian chef who is probably best known for his work at The Fat Duck.

He first started cooking by volunteering with a Meal on Wheels charity in Montreal, Quebec.

After graduating from university, Jonny learned his trade for over a year at the Institut de Tourisme et d’Hotellerie du Quebec.

Unsurprisingly, he did well in culinary school and received a scholarship that enabled him to travel to Italy.

There Jonny worked for the Michelin-starred A-Spurcacciun-a.

He later worked in Gultiero Marchesi’s two Michelin-starred restaurants in Erbusco.

In 2005 Jonny moved to The Fat Duck, initially as Chef de Partie.

The Fat Duck Group then named him Executive Head Chef.

Finally, after 12 years, Jonny left to pursue personal projects.

Which restaurant is Jonny Lake working in right now?

In 2019 Jonny opened his own restaurant, wine bar and cellar with former Fat Duck sommelier master Isa Bal.

Trivet is based in the Snowsfields Yard development on London Bridge.

Trivet is described as “an informal, quality restaurant in the heart of Bermondsey”.

Jonny and Isa “want to offer an extraordinary culinary experience”.

The use of “the best ingredients and wines, where possible from the region”.

The fat duck – where is she? Does it have Michelin stars?

The Fat Duck is Heston Blumenthal’s three Michelin-starred restaurant in Bray, Berkshire.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Fat Duck’s opening.

As a result, the restaurant promises to celebrate the “epic milestone with an anthology menu of Fat Duck classics.”

The upscale restaurant is located in a 16th century building and is known for its inventive cuisine.

The restaurant received its first Michelin star in 1999, its second in 2002 and its third in 2004.

The 14-course tasting menu offers dishes such as nitro scrambled eggs and bacon ice cream.

The restaurant has a laboratory where Heston Blumenthal and his team develop new dishes.

Dishes served in the three-Michelin-starred restaurant include snail porridge, sweet curry baobab, and cherry pulp.

His famous “Sound of the Sea” dish consists of mixed sashimi, sea vegetables and “sand”.

Reservations cost between £ 250 and £ 325 per person and there is usually a waiting list for bookings.

Where does the Jonny lake come from?

Jonny Lake was born in Ontario.

He studied physics and biology at the University of Montreal before embarking on a career as a chef.

MasterChef will air on BBC One on Monday March 29, 2021 at 9 p.m. and continue on Thursday, April 1, 2021 and Good Friday at 9 p.m.
