Here come the gypsies! on channel 5 – what is it about?
Channel 5’s new series promises to reveal the hidden world of the gypsy and travel communities.
The show will dig into their unique traditions and codes to understand how this community survives – and indeed continues to thrive.
In South Wales, Romany Gypsy horse dealer Jim ‘Beb’ Price faces his toughest day of the year when he goes for his first ride.
Meanwhile, cage fighter Tony ‘The Rhino’ Giles organizes a fight in Surrey to resolve a dispute between two warring families.
Who is Tony Giles?
Tony Giles is a Roma gypsy cage fighter nicknamed “The Rhino”.
The first episode heavily revolves around him as he organizes a brawl between two topless men – in full view of cheering little children.
Tony, 36, is a mixed martial arts expert and a self-proclaimed “fair play man”.
This means that he acts as a mediator for disputes between families within the Gypsy community.
Tony is the first gypsy to win a world title in MMA.
He said of fighting: “It’s in our blood, in our genes; They are raised from an early age to protect themselves.
“In the gypsy community, money comes second after fight and honor.
“You are much more respected than the roughest gypsy than the richest.”
He had problems with the law for a variety of crimes, including possession of firearms and a death threat.
Is Tony Giles still married to Danielle Mason?
Some may recognize Tony by his nine-year relationship with former glamor model and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star, Danielle Mason.
Documentary filmmakers followed their relationship on the hit C4 series.
Of course, Danielle Mason is the sister of EastEnders’ actress Jessie Wallace.
The couple dates back to 2010 and got married in 2012.
However, they split in 2016 because he disapproved of her job as a glamor model and girl.
Despite being reunited, the couple split for good in 2019.
Danielle is now dating Broadmoor reformed prisoner, Ben Hatchett.
Ben served time alongside Yorkshire rippers Peter Sutcliffe and Stockwell Strangler Kenneth Erskine on Broadmoor.
The 31-year-old was released from prison last June and has changed his life.
He is now the host of the Let’s Be Real podcast and a published author.

What are the Roma traditions?
The basic life of a Roma gypsy includes horse trading, bare knuckle fights, and fortune telling.
Because of their nomadic lifestyle, the life of the gypsies contradicts that of the “sedentary” community.
It is believed that there are over 300,000 Gypsy Roma and Irish travelers in the UK.
Roma gypsies are originally from northern India while travelers are of Irish descent and both groups are nomads.
Since 2002, travelers have been recognized as an ethnic group and protected in the UK by the Race Relations Act.
Being on the go means that traveling children often grow up outside of the educational system and many children never go to school.
The vast majority of travelers are Catholics.
Many travelers are dog breeders such as greyhounds or lurchers and have a longstanding interest in the horse trade.
Until they are engaged, some teenage traveler girls undergo the courtship ritual in which a boy grabs a girl they want to kiss.
Couples marry young – girls between 16 and 17 years old and boys between 18 and 19. They are not supposed to marry non-travelers, but marriage to second cousins in families is common.
