Will the soaps keep filming when England lockdowns?

On Monday evening (January 5), Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England was going into a third lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic. But will the soaps keep filming?

Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks were forced to cease production in March 2020 during the initial lockdown.

Emmerdale executive producer Jane Hudson recently spoke to Entertainment Daily and other media outlets following the government’s recent ban.

She said, “Some of you are probably wondering if, given the latest announcement, we’re still filming – and yes, we are. We returned to filming on May 20th which was taking place during a national lockdown.

“The reason we resigned in March is that we haven’t taken any security precautions. We set all of these up, checked everything, and made sure our cast and crew could return to work safely – and that’s why we returned on May 20th. “

The producer confirmed that production will continue and continued, “So we can keep shooting now – we have very strict procedures.

“We have social distance, we wear masks, we have everything going. Everyone is safe, everyone is healthy, and everyone is happy to be on the set doing Emmerdale. “

Will Coronation Street and EastEnders keep filming?

A representative from EastEnders told ED, “In accordance with government guidelines, we will continue filming. Continue to strictly adhere to the existing social distancing measures. “


While Hollyoaks has not yet confirmed whether filming will continue, Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports remains eligible for a cleared production in television and film.
