The internationally acclaimed alternative rock band Wolf Alice announces the release of a haunting rendition of ‘Lipstick on the glass“From their critically acclaimed # 1 album” Blue Weekend “from 2021. Exclusively available through Jim Beam’s official YouTube channel and filmed in a single shot with a single tracking shot of lead singer Ellie Rowsell, the appearance of Wolf Alice is the finale of a series of four unique releases planned by Jim Beam Welcome Sessions in 2021.
Filmed in a series of ornate and wonderfully atmospheric rooms in the Union Chapel, a reclaimed 19th century Gothic church, camera across the room and finally onto the stage as the music soars to a crescendo. Created by the band as a love letter to the independent music scene, this unique performance is both deferential and solemn to the importance of a space for a live performance and a tribute to this literal cathedral of live music and the slow and steady rebirth of live worldwide -Music scene.
Ellie Rowsell from Wolf Alice says: “As an artist, there are only a few places that you connect with musically and emotionally and that are rooted in memories of live music or the spectacle of space, but it’s also the people who make it what it is. Live music is a community that creates one on stage through your music and the associated experience with your fellow musicians and the audience. It is a coming together of people who are enthusiastic about the live experience to create an irreplaceable and absolutely unique shared experience. Going to concerts made us do what we do, which is why it is heartbreaking to see so many close their doors. When we had the opportunity during the Jim Beam Welcome Sessions, we chose Union Chapel. It has incredible acoustics and looks very nice and a feeling of nostalgia for me, as I grew up nearby and even gave an annual Christmas concert here with the local community choir. We wanted to play ‘Lipstick on the Glass’ because of its melodic size, which we hope will pay homage to the room we are in. It’s a privilege to play here and something we will remember together forever. “
